Description of the Tutoring Service

Orientation and ongoing tutoring activities are carried out with the aim of supporting students throughout their educational pathway. These activities are primarily intended to identify actions that foster improved learning outcomes and, consequently, successful completion of examinations.

The tutoring service is offered in the following forms:

  • tutoring activities for the support of First- and Second-Year Courses;
  • peer tutoring for orientation purposes;
  • laboratory tutoring;
  • personal tutoring and academic guidance provided by Academic Staff.

Tutoring Activities for the Support of First- and Second-Year Courses

First-year courses are supported by tutors selected from high-achieving students or doctoral candidates. These activities include classroom exercises in addition to those delivered by faculty members, as well as individual office hours aimed at clarifying both theoretical and practical aspects and providing guidance on effective study strategies.

Students who do not achieve the minimum required threshold in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics will be assigned Additional Educational Obligations (OFA) (Ministerial Decree 270, Art. 6, paragraph 1). To fulfil these obligations, remedial educational activities are provided during the first year. These courses are, in any case, strongly recommended for all students.

These activities are complemented by personal tutoring and academic guidance provided by Academic Staff (described below).

Peer Tutoring Activities

Peer tutors, selected from students enrolled in the final years of the Degree Programmes in CTF and Pharmacy, aim to guide students throughout their course of study with respect to aspects not directly related to the content of individual courses.

Laboratory Tutoring Activities

Laboratory tutors for single-station laboratories are appointed annually in order to support students during laboratory activities.

Activities of the Faculty Tutor (hp fatto delle modifiche perchè non c’è più.)

Personal tutoring and academic guidance are also provided by Academic Staff. Students are supported throughout their entire academic career, also through the Unistudium platform. The activities include:

  • support in planning the academic path;
  • verify compliance with the requirements outlined in the Teaching Regulations for the year of enrolment;
  • attendance of the information and training course on workplace safety on the Unistudium platform;
  • acquisition of a B2-level English language certification through the services offered by the University Language Centre;
  • fulfilment of prerequisite requirements for exams;
  • guide students in consultation of bibliographic sources (websites, books, scientific journals, etc.);
  • advice and support in the selection of elective courses and training placements;
  • guidance in choosing the thesis topic, based on personal aptitudes and academic performance;
  • offer advice on identifying relevant contacts for Erasmus programmes, job placement services, and calls for pre- and post-graduate opportunities (e.g., tutoring or doctoral positions).;
  • support students with academic or personal challenges, including group issues requiring coordination with other faculty members.

Compulsory Attendance – First-Year and Second-Year Students

Attendance is mandatory for all first-year and second year courses. Students are therefore encouraged to complete their enrollment as early as possible, and no later than October 7, to ensure they meet the required attendance threshold to qualify for the exam.

Failure to meet the minimum attendance requirement indicated by the instructor will require the student to retake the course the following year.
